One invariably constructs an ideal situation
of ones wishes or imaginings
compared to which the present is unsatisfactory.
And such constructs are essential in 
permitting the individual to design for himself a course of action.
Dissatisfaction and criticism, like pain,
are essential stimulants to action.

The idealization which is the occasion of so much unhappiness
is, at the same time essential for ones survival
for the survival of the individual.
The content of the ideal is a projection,
an objectivation of ones subjective view of the world
and hence ones claim upon that world,
hence the determination to make that world ones home.

Es ist unvermeidlich, dass der Mensch sich ein Vorbild
der Welt in welcher er wirkt und handelt entwirft.
Die Vorbild ist die Projektion seiner eigenen No#te,
Wu#nsche, Hoffnungen, Bedu#fnisse,
es ist ein Ideal, das er zu verwirklichen sucht.
Unvermeidlich ist auch,
dass zwischen dem Vorbild, dem Ideal, 
mittels dessen der Mensch,
wie mittels einer Landkarte,
sich in seine Lebenswelt ei zugliedern sucht
und die Wirklichkeit die er dort vorfindet
ein Widerspruch besteht.
Denn die Wirklichkeit ist nicht wie das Ideal,
ist anders als dieses,
und die Frage ist nun ob man die Wirklichkeit dem Ideal anpassen soll,
oder umgekehrt, das Ideal der Wirklichkeit.

Die Vereinbarung des Idealen und des Wirklichen
ist vielleicht die wesentlichste geistig-seelische Aufgabe des Menschen.
