It has been this way for years now, in fact, so long as I can remember, whenever I have something to say, I also need someone to say it to. Since usually there is no such person around, I end up talking to myself, which is not very satisfactory, or better, imagining that I were speaking to someone whom I in fact know, but who does not have the time, and perhaps not the interest to listen to me. On first thought it might appear as if discussion lists or maillists such as philofhi were the perfect answer. But then one is always inclined to assume that the listener is eager or even willing to hear what I wish to say. aThe more radical and subersive my message the less likely this assumption is to be true. Nor is an affirmative statement required to arouse the listner's ire. At time a question well-aimed at the foundation of faith suffices to stir the wrath of the defenders of the bastion of truth whatever the flag that it mmay be flying.
