Some months ago I received from your office a form letter
from Dr. Lessell, asking, if I remember and interpreted 
correctly, whether I wished to "volunteer" to offer to
Harvard Medical students an "advanced elective" in some
aspect of ophthalmology in which I considered myself qualified.

I apologize for not having replied. I am indeed willing
to teach such a course, if I were asked to do so.
In that case, it would probably be most efficient
if I discussed with yourself, or with Dr. Lessell, or with
some other responsible member of the faculty, both substance
and form of what the Department might wish to have taught.
Initially, a telephone conference would probably suffice.

I would expect to spend several weeks preparing for the
assignment, but, understandably, I would wish to defer
such preparation until the course had actually been
scheduled.
