On Wednesday January 7, 2009, -I'm not absolutely sure that was the say, it might have been Tuesday, it was raining and sleeting, I went to the Suffolk County Superior Court Clerk's office to obtain another Summons forms for the Board of State Examiners of Plumbers and Pipe Fitters, since the return receipt of my December 26, mailing had never been returned to me. The charge was five dollars, but the Clerk had no change for a $20 bill, offered to give it to me free of charge; but I wrote a check for $5, and when this is returned from the bank, I'll be certain of the date. I completed the form and took it over to the Sheriff's office at 151 Merrimac Street. There I had to complete a form for pro se litigants; the $50 fee had to be paid by certified check or cash. Fortunately I had the currency in my wallet. I was told that after service, the summons, endorsed by the Deputy would be mailed to me - which seems odd, why wouldn't the Deputy file it with the Court? This morning I pondered what I should do if the letter from the Sheriff's office remains outstanding - just like the return receipt.
