Thank you for your comments on my letter to Dr. Everett. I'm embarrassed by my naivete, but I try to learn. If you have time, I would like your comments and advice about a formal research project thats I am hatching which would entail 1) recruiting as subjects for the study, either by hospital or surgi-center referral or by public advertisement, pre-operative cataract surgery patients who have been given a firm date for cataract surgery. 2) paying these subjects to cooperate in three or more preoperative and three or more postoperative visual function evaluations consisting at minimum of a) reading aloud into a recording device under conditions controlled for illumination and type size and b) simulated operation of an automobile using one of various commercially available driving simulators. c) such tasks requiring depth perception as threading a needle and or inserting a key into a lock. 3) performing analyses of the audio tracks of the reading test, of the electronic data generated by the driving simulator, and of video recordings of the depth perception tests. 4) calculating statistical comparisons of monocular and binocular function a) before and after surgery on the first eye and b) before and after surgery on the second eye. Does such a proposal sound persuasive to you? How much "support" could I expect as principal investigator? Would it be worth the trouble? Would it be worth setting up my own legal entity for this purpose? Non-profit corporation, Trust, LLC, Professional corporation? Would it be more practical to approach the Eye&Ear Infirmary, Mt Auburn Hospital, NEMC, or some other hospital? or is there a risk that they would steal the idea, - if it's as good as I think it is. Please don't bother with answers if you are tired or have other more immediate concerns. I, obviously have nothing else to do.
