Dear Cyndy, Thank you for your letter, and accept my apologies for my sloppiness in failing to proof-read my mailings to you before I send them. I'm appreciative of your generosity in not scolding me for my typographical and grammatical errors. At 1:02 a.m. this morning the Appeals Court updated its web-site to show that at the last minute, on September 28, Nantucket had filed an answer to my appeal. I also note that the Appeals Court Clerk mistakenly accepted an opposition filed 3 weeks after the due date, to one of my motions. I'll let that pass. Although I prepared for just this contingency, with computer, printer and toner on hand to compose here in Konnarock, my reply to their reply, a composition which I relish because their legal skills are so limited, and I like the opportunity to show mine off; I unexpectedly find myself so jittery that Margaret has started to pack, - and I will start to pack when I finish this letter, planning to start back to Belmont tomorrow morning, and arriving there Thursday night. I then have 14 days to draft, print and file my reply. A few comments: Acorn started out as a separate venture building houses in a style more conventional than Deck House, with pitched roofs (or rooves, as you prefer). I suspect, but don't know: a) that Acorn also uses timber-frame as opposed to stud walls, b) that like Deck House , Acorn provides the plans and the materials but requires the customer to find a builder, c) that prices and qualities are comparable. My fascination with many large windows and vaulted ceilings makes me prefer Deck House, - but your connections to Victorian style may lead you to prefer Acorn. One potentially very important point that we haven't touched on: All improvements on NY State land are going to be subject to NY State estate taxes, which I suspect are MUCH higher than Ohio's. Obviously, I have no notion how much estate tax, if any, your and Ned's heirs will have to pay; I also don't know how NY State treats your estate's tax liabilities to Ohio.. Before you put a lot of money into Columbia County real estate, figure out the effect if any on your children's estate tax bill. Feel free to discuss this with me to whatever extent you wish. And now to get started packing. Give my best to Ned. Jochen
