Directions from South Station Bus Terminal to 174 School Street, Belmont. Although located in the same building complex, the Red Line Subway station is located some distance from the platforms at which busses arrive. One either takes an elevator or walks several flights of stairs from the bus terminal to street level. Then one must walk either through the railroad station or on the sidewalk around the railroad station to the Red Line Subway. The route is well marked with signs. On entering the Red Line subway station, be sure to look for signs to the Inbound Tracks to Alewife. Do not use any entrance that is marked to Ashmont-Braintree only. The automated ticketing now in use almost requires an engineering degree, but there will be attendants to help you. Tell them that you need a ticket that will permit you to change at Harvard Square to a No. 74 or a No. 75 bus to Belmont. (Since I have a senior citizen's card, I don't know how this works.) Be sure to get only on a subway train that goes to Alewife. The stops are Downtown Crossing, Park Street, Charles Street, Kendall Square, Central Square, and then Harvard Square. Get off the subway at Harvard Square, walk down the ramp through the turnstiles, then up (rather than down) a small incline to the underground bus stop. Look for signs that say Busses to Belmont. Take either No. 74 or No. 75, and ask the driver to let you off on Concord Avenue at the Belmont High School. Once you're off the bus, the bus will drive away, and you push the button at the pedestrian traffic light which is located at the bus stop. You then cross Concord Avenue, which is divided by a central strip, and walk up Orchard Street, which intersects Concord Avenue at this spot. The sidewalk ends after about 200 feet, and you must walk on the right hand side of the street past Orchard Circle. Continue walking in the street to the next intersection, which is School Street. Turn left on School Street, staying on the left side. Ours is the 4th house on the left, No. 174 School Street. Be sure to bring your cell phone along. ============================================= If this is too daunting to you, I'll be glad to meet you at South Station where the bus from New Bedford arrives. To do so, I'd need to know the time that your bus was scheduled to arrive. Our telephones in Belmont are 617-484-8109 and 617-489-1043. My cell phone (which I don't use unless I'm away from home) is 617-548-5768. Please don't leave any cell phone messages for me, because I'm not in the habit of checking them.
