I wish you would let me know by e-mail that you've received this message, even if you're not in the mood to reply substantively. I hope you and Laura, Benjamin and Leah are happy and comfortable. I suspect that the ROM bios on the Nantucket computer is snagged on the SETUP utility, from which it needs to be dislodged by a command entered from the keyboard. If you are so inclined, when at the house, start the computer by entering 4 then * on the telephone keypad. If my surmise is correct, the computer will then enter the SETUP utility, which you should EXIT saving changes, using the keyboard. Then wait for the computer to boot and connect to the Internet. When the login prompt appears, you may shut down the machine with Alt-Ctrl-Delete. Alternatively you may log in with "meyer", password "Mut12z", and "startx" to get the X-Windows screen. Then to shut off the computer you must exit X-Windows and type Alt-Ctrl-Delete. Finally shut off the power while the machine is rebooting by entering 4 and then # on the telephone keypad. As for the car, if you don't want to use Laura's car to try to jump start it, you might turn on the battery charger to charge the battery. If you do so, you will have to make a second trip to the house to turn the charger off before you leave the Island. The automobile mechanic who previously repaired the car was: Chavdar Leontinov:4B Rusty's Way Nantucket MA 02554:508-332-2262 If you don't get the car started, I will telephone him from Belmont and negotiate with him to diagnose the problem. I have, of course, no objections, if you want to deal with him yourself while you're on the Island, but it isn't necessary, and you may not wish to spend the time. Marion is coming back early, Friday at 9 p.m., - perhaps even earlier. Her trip to Truro isn't 100% satisfactory. If necessary I will go to Nantucket for a day later this month, and if the appeals court hasn't ruled, Mommy and I may go to Konnarock at the beginning of September.
