January 21, 2011 Dear Cyndy, Thank you for the wintry, snowy picture of Hayden Run with the Gazebo, a scene which lends itself to so many different interpretations. I hope that winter is not too dispiriting and that you will have the strength to revel in the vernal renaissance that lies in store for us. Meanwhile I've expended the fourth day shoveling snow, which today was powdery and light and would have been perfect for skiing had my hip joints given permission. They did not. However, they allow me to toss the snow with the shovel, a source of simple pleasure. Snow shoveling is my octogenarian winter sport, and much more enjoyable than sitting behind the window and watching the white stuff come down. I keep on writing; it's like a bad habit which I can't break. If I had anything better to do, I would. I'm pleased that your driver's license was renewed, I hope for a long five years, as is the policy in Massachusetts. I hope to write again soon. Perhaps then I'll have more to say. Tonight my mind is in the mood for a long winter sleep. Stay well and give my best to Ned. Jochen * * * * * *
