Dear Marion, Thank you for your letter, and for your invitation to sound off my political fantasies. It is essential, I believe, that thoughts and actions grow organically from the circumstances that precipitate them. Ideas launched in a vacuum are likely to fall far off the mark. I will nonetheless accept your invitation, challenge, temptation. Unilateral disarmament. Military only for defense, as in post WWII Germany. Abolition of hunting and fishing for "sport." Food and shelter without charge for all, modelled on universal public school education. Transformation of prisons into educational institutions, i.e. schools that foster and create humanity rather than extinguish and destroy it. Only public financing of political campaigns. Transformation of political "advertising" into provision only of information modelled on FDA approved package inserts for drugs. Rescinding personal civil rights to profit and non-profit corporations. Making stock-holders and bond-holders liable for injuries caused by the enterprises from which they profit. Removing social and financial support for the extension of non-sentient (vegetable) existence. Fostering a culture that accepts illness and death as integral to life. Limiting population growth by all feasible voluntary means. Curtailing economies predicated on perpetual growth. More Mozart. More later. Jochen
