Dear Mr. Pucci, Thanks for your prompt response. Although in the presence of two check valves in the supply lines, the development of a vacuum in the hot water tank is a physical impossibility, I agree that my failure to install a vacuum relief valve in the supply line to the hot water tank is a nominal violation of the Massachusetts Plumbing Code. I have instructed and paid my licensed plumber, Mr. Christopher M. Gordon, to remedy this defect and to install a vacuum relief valve in the supply line to the hot water tank. To this date, the Nantucket Plumbing Inspector has prohibited Mr. Gordon from complying with my request. I agree only to the removal of the six or ten inches of 3/4" copper tubing necessary for the installation of the vacuum relief valve. I deny that the existing plumbing installation at 3 Red Barn Road entails any other violations of the Massachusetts State Plumbing Code. I do NOT, at this juncture, agree to the removal of any other plumbing pipes or fittings. However, I am open to persuasion. If you wish me to consider the remediation of any other specific deficiencies, please advise me in detail and in writing. e-mail would be very efficient. Thank you. Ernst Meyer
