Subject: August 8, 2011 (MN) From: Ernst Meyer Date: Fri, 05 Aug 2011 06:54:47 -0400 To: namenwir@umn.edu Dear Marion, Thank you for your letter. We too are blissfully cool on Nantucket. I have been "working with my hands" almost continuously all waking hours for the past five days, putting "finishing touches" on the wiring, as well as a bit of outside painting, taking much pleasure in the expansive views across the moors to the distant town and the distant ocean, properly interpreted, I think, as the projection of my own delusions of grandeur. - Why else does one delight in views from the mountain's summit; deriving satisfaction also from the irony of using the camping toilet I have clobbered together (a five gallon bucket crowned with a toilet seat). I haven't permitted myself any writing, but this morning I awoke with fantasies of composing, - and filing with the Court, a parody of an engineering analysis of my plumbing, and a parody of a literary critique of Mr. Ciarmataro's plumber's world. Now, however, I must get started on today's wiring cosmetics. As for your telephone call, while on Nantucket (until 3 p.m. August 6) telephone calls to 617-484-8109 will be call-forwarded here. As soon as we return to Belmont (about 11 p.m. August 6) I will remove the call-forwarding (if I don't forget) and telephoning 617-484-8109 should rouse me in Belmont. On Wednesday, in celebration for your imminent arrival, the Town of Belmont is repaving School Street, a new asphalt carpet, albeit noir rather than rouge, will be rolled out for your arrival at 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 11. If we don't speak before, I wish for you a safe and comfortable flight "home". (Where, in fact, is "home?") Jochen
