Subject: September 20, 2011 (NM) From: Ernst Meyer Date: Tue, 20 Sep 2011 12:32:28 -0400 To: Nathaniel Meyer Dear Nathaniel, Just now I mailed to you a blind copy of my most recent letter to Helmut inclusive of three URLs, one of which is an account of Micha Namenwirth's criticism of the Dvorak CD with which Marion provided him. Micha is Marion's ex-husband who is now married to Marion's friend Barbara and lives with Barbara on a Farm in Wisconsin jointly owned by Barbara and Marion. Micha aspired and studied in Holland to be a conductor. Instead he became an assistant librarian in Widener. Marion has told me his subsequent employment, which did not include conducting. Micha has had a life fraught with such suffering as to be unsuitable for off-hand epistolary recitation. It is as you know, very important to accept criticism, to try to evaluate it without becoming discouraged or resentful. I might be wrong, but my immediate impression is that Micha's criticism of your performances is NOT valid; that it is at once a reflection of his own frustration and disappointment, and an overemphasis of technicalities which a) are unnoticed by the audience, and b) will resolve naturally as you obtain more resources for your performances. I very much hope that your academic year is proceeding smoothly and that you are immune to ALL criticism the volume of which will increase with your "success". Never forget Konrad Adenauer's dictum: Ein dickes Fell is eine Gottesgabe. (A tough hide is a gift of the gods.) Jochen
