Dear Benjamin, Thank you very much for coming to talk to me before you went back to Dartmouth. Our conversation made me feel very close to you. I hope you feel the same way. I would like to drive to Hanover some day soon to see you; not to scold, not to nag, not even to supervise, but simply to be together with you for a short while and maybe to meet Florence. If you agreed I thought I might come when we could spend not less than one hour and not more than three hours together. Maybe we could have a meal together in the college dining hall; maybe I will rewrite in English some passages of my novel that remind me, how I felt during my first year in college, and read to you a chapter or two out of my own life. Or we could talk about other things. If it were warm enough, we could take a walk, and you could show me around Hanover. Or we could even drive up to Lisbon and walk over our land there, if the snow weren't too deep. If you agree that it would be good for me to come, I would like to leave here some day soon, soon after dawn, and leave Hanover not later than 2 p.m., to avoid driving in the dark. If you think it a good idea, let me know days that would suit you. Any day would be fine for me, provided the roads are free of snow and ice. I've always liked very much to drive up north. Going to see you at Dartmouth would give me the excuse that I've long wanted. Please don't be embarrassed to say NO! My feelings wouldn't be hurt. I would consider it merely a postponement, and ask again later. Love, Yoyo
