Dear Benj, Thank you very much for your e-mail. I look forward very much to driving to Hanover next Saturday, January 28. I've done a little research on the Internet, from which I conclude that the noon-time temperature will be in the twenties, too cold for either you or me to wait for the other on the Dartmouth Green. So here's my suggestion: I plan to arrive at least half an hour early (11:30 a.m.) and find a metered parking space near 33 South Main Street, close to the Dartmouth Book Store. I'll bring plenty of quarters to feed the meter. As soon as I've parked, I will telephone you on your cell phone. PLEASE E-MAIL ME YOUR CELL PHONE NUMBER. My cell phone no. is 617-548-5768. I'll have my cell phone turned on, but may not answer while I'm driving. When we talk on the cell phone, I will tell you exactly there I am parked, and if you like, you can come directly to the car. I don't mind waiting; I'll have a book and my laptop. I won't be bored. If we don't manage to talk on the cell phone, I will go into the Dartmouth Book Store at 33 South Main Street at 12 noon, and wait for you there. I've checked. Their Saturday hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. I selected the Dartmouth Book Store: a) because it will be open, b) because it will be warm, c) because there's on street parking, d) because it won't require me to show a Dartmouth College I.D. Please feel free to make alternate suggestions for our meeting. Once we have gotten together, how we spend the next hour or two or three depends entirely on your wishes. We can have lunch together in the College dining hall or in a restaurant, or from the picnic lunch that I will bring along. We can walk and you can show me the College buildings. You can introduce me to some of your friends - this is NOT a requirement -. We can drive out of town to look for a place to walk where the snow is not too deep. We can talk - this also is NOT a requirement - as much or as little as you care to. You can ask questions about ANYTHING. My questions, if any, would be very much open ended, "Tell me about your friends ... tell me about your courses ... about your teachers ... about your plans." If you wanted to talk about specific topics, such as for example, Hobbes Leviathan, or some other issues which your courses raised for you, it would be helpful if you would specify questions or topics by e-mail in advance to give me a chance to prepare myself. But academic-style conversations are NOT necessary. If you were curious as to what has been on my mind, you could click on: http://home.earthlink.net/~ej1meyer/freunde/e049.html and/or http://home.earthlink.net/~ej1meyer/diary12/d120119.00 but neither is required or even suggested reading. You almost surely have better ways to spend you time. But PLEASE E-MAIL ME YOUR CELL PHONE NUMBER. Love, Yoyo
