Perhaps because the abscess has disappeared, I am now vaguely pre-occupied trying to assess what economists call the shadow price, which in this instance is negative, i.e., how much the orthodontists would have to offer to pay me in order that I should permit them to spend six of my remaining months pretending to restore teeth that have been forever lost....
