It always gladdens me to have a letter from you; but please remember
that although I forward to you many letters, you're never obligated
to answer; as a matter of fact, you're not even obligated to read
what I send you; and if you considered it "junk" mail, and deleted
it on sight, I wouldn't be offended.

I've resolved from now on to write my novel in parallel German and
English versions, and as I have time, to go back to translate into
English what I've already written, no fewer than 1660 pages. Until
you've learned German, I'll send you only the English version.

Grandma is getting along well. She joins me in sending you our
best wishes. Stay well and happy! - and please don't feel you
need to answer.
