The circumstance that the removal of a (donor) kidney results in a 10 fold increase the life-time incidence of ESRD, suggests to me that the development of ESRD is a recursive exponential process, and that in asymptomatic and apparently healthy individuals, ESRD might hypothetically be at least partially preventable if early innocuous pharmacological, dietary or other life-style intervention were triggered by "borderline" but statistically significant "abnormal" laboratory findings.
