Dear Cyndy, Thank you for your letter. I'm glad you're back safely from your long trip to Canaan. I very much hope the edema doesn't recur, or in any case not severe and not often. The development in the case which seemed hopeful to you has fizzled. Mr. Pucci suggested compromise because he doesn't have a case; but we all know, and especially the Nantucket authorities know, that the courts will bend the law in the Town's favor. I have no idea what will happen at the Hearing, but I'm not counting on anything. Meanwhile I've been taking care of Margaret, working on my novel, and exchanging letters with my new neighbor's father, Niels Holger Nielsen in Heidelberg, who, like myself, is frustrated in his efforts to understand his world. On July 21, at 5:30 p.m. Margaret and I will meet Klemens at the Charlotte NC, airport, then we will drive about 170 miles back to Konnarock, spend the night here, and on the following morning set out for Belmont with Klemens doing most of the driving. I will have two weeks for any last minute preparations that the Hearing might require. What we will do afterwards, depends on what transpires at the Hearing. If there's no occasion for yet another appeal, Margaret and I may return to Konnarock for another 2 months - but at this juncture the middle of August seems a long way off. I hope you can stay relatively well and happy. Please give my regards to Ned. Jochen
