Nathaniel, In the context of your criticism of the banishment of daemons from the Sanders Theatre performance of Mozart's #39 last evening, I was reminded of my satire of a Sanders Theatre concert on page 345 of Vol. 1 of my novel Döhring, a wedding concert on the occasion of Döhring's marriage to Dorothea. The first part of the concert is Kantate Nr. 197 "Gott ist unsre Zuversicht, wir vertrauen seinen Händen," which edifies Döhring as expected but leaves Dorothea cold; more apposite to last night's concert is the account of the performance during the second half of the concert of a computer generated score the performance of which was controlled electronically in that each music stand was fitted with its own microphone and each musician's playing was electronically analysed for musical correctness, absence of which would be indicated by a flashing red light mounted over the head of the deviant musician. Döhring said to Dorothea: Das hat mit uns nichts zu tun, and they left when the intermission ended. Jochen
