Dear Ms. Chambliss, Thank you for your letter. I am pleased that you are getting along well. There are many avenues of negotiating a situation such as yours, and I'm not at all sure that my choices would be the best ones. Although I am still nominally "in practice", I haven't seen a patient for months, a situation which does not disconcert me at all, For the first time since I became a physician, I can be sure that I am doing no harm. It's unavoidable that subsequent to the death of my wife, my own life also should be drifting to its end. I have no regrets and I have no complaints. I'm learning to be patient. With best wishes, Sincerely, Ernst Meyer
