I've been thinking about you, and I want you to know what I think.
In the first place, you and your family should consider your
present employment as a period of internship or residency, which
is much more valuable than the standard "canned" training offered
by hospitals, law firms or commercial establishments, because unlike
that other training, it does not crush or cripple you - and I speak
from experience - but gives you the opportunity to learn about the
world and most important, about yourself. To become yourself.
I think what you are doing now will make you wiser, more intelligent,
more sensitive, and will enhance your ability to survive in a mindless
and cruel world, and you will be far ahead your "peers" who have 
succumbed to conventionality and permitted themselves to be stunted 
and crippled by society.

Explain to Professor Zander, if you judge him to be open-minded 
and imaginative enough, that to learn about social and political
tyranny one needn't listen to Karl Popper's sermons. All that's
required is to attend an orchestra rehearsal and observe the
conductor as the quintessential "leader", who forces his spiritual
slaves to subject themselves to, and to conform to his intuitions
and to assimilate themselves to the conductor's musical experience.
