Subsequent to our recent correspondence, I placed a wireless thermometer next to the violins in the closet, to ascertain the temperature fluctuations to which the cases were exposed. These have been small, ranging from 55 to 60 degrees F. The weather has been unusually mild. I have no instrumentation to track the humidity. The weather forecast for the next week is for wide swings in both temperature (69 degrees to 18 degrees) and humidity (95% to 30%). Keeping the temperature constant in the context of uncontrolled outside humidity would have unpredictable consequences for the violins. When Nathaniel visited last evening, I discussed the matter with him, and he took the violins to keep them in his house where string instruments have been stored winter and summer for years without apparent deleterious effects. If this arrangement is satisfactory, you needn't reply to this e-mail. If not, please advise what you would like me to do. The telephone (617-419-1043) has been intermittently non-functioning.Yesterday and today it seems to work. I hope that you are content and well. I look forward to seeing you on your return. Best wishes.
