The more I think about it, the more convinced I am that the Inspector who viciously and maliciously orders the destruction and who has unfettered discretion - without possibility of appeal to disallow any and all replacements, cannot be trusted to approve any replacement installation. He is a Town employee. His immediate superior is the Building Commissioner, Stephen Butler who supervised the "inspection of integrity and fairness" has been orchestrating its sequellae. Ultimately the Inspector's (and Butler's) employment is at the discretion of the Board of Selectmen, to whose policies we have been exposed for the past 13 years. The order to remove the plumbing is a trap !! to prevent completion of the house. ============================== Other avenues we might or might not want to explore: a) Ascertain from our Head of the Plains Road neighbors the name of the attorney who negatiated the waiver of building restrictions on their land, and ask that lawyer how much he would charge us to arrange "an acceptable compromise" on the plumbing. b) Instead of trying to hire a plumber directly, hire a general contractor active on - and with connections on the Island, to arrange for changes necessary to get the plumbing approved.
