At 1:45 p.m., when I was about to go to the library and the grocery store, and noted that Nathaniel's car was gone, I thought I should look in on the dog, The cage was empty, its door was closed. I looked around on the floor, ang saw no dog, but scattered about were torn pieces of paper and plastic. As I was about to close the door to the room, thinking Nathaniel must have taken the dog with him, I noticed the dog looking at me from on the bed where he was lying. I telephone Nathaniel who told me the dog was "alright", that there was nothing for me to do, and no reason why I should not go to the store as I had planned. When I returned at 3:45 p.m., Nathaniel's car was in front of the garage. After I had unloaded and put away the groceries, and backed the Red Car onto the front lawn, Nathaniel appeared with the dog, who had almost chewed through the second leash. Nathaniel and I had a brief, sympathetic conversation. Nathaniel told me the dog had destroyed a trumpet case but had not damaged the trumpet. I told Nathaniel I thought the situation was untenable, that I did not know how to resolve it, and that I hoped it could be resolved in a way that was least painful for you and for Nathaniel, and that he, Nathaniel should discuss with you what, if anything, should be done.
