and with much affection. I am deeply immersed in reading and writing.

Some thirty years ago, I started toying the the notion that the Protestant
Reformation, with its insistence that salvation is derived from reading, 
i.e. from "the Word of God", redefined religion as the study of literature,
and identified the understanding of literature as the path to salvation.

Regarding "current events", Shakespeare's Richard II, had this to say:

"For God's sake, let us sit upon the ground
And tell sad stories of the death of kings;"
