Winter is coming. The outside temperature is 36 F; inside, 52 F. I turned on the oil burner to forestall the very remote possibility of the pipes freezing, and set the boiler thermostat to 68 F, low enough so as not to heat the house. My day has been very quiet. I much enjoy the solitude. Yesterday I went to Microcenter and spent $199.99 plus tax dor a Dell laptop with Windows 10, 500 Gb hard disk, 2 Gb processor and 4 Gb (expandable to 16 Gb) of memory. I chose not to interfere with the Windows 10 but to boot a Ubuntu 16.4.3 operating system from a 16 Gb usb stick. It is feasible to use a second usb port to incorporate an external hard drive of any capacity. I played with the machine most of the day, and found it so satisfactory that tonight I am toying with the idea of buying a second machine tomorrow. The prices are obviously rising sharply. Most laptops are listed for $400 to $1200, - and the trade war with China isn't going to reduce prices. Images from Konnarock today show, as you surmised, that the retaining wall is intact. The evening of October 5, on Nantucket, I downloaded the 17 volumes of Sigmund Freuds Gesammelte Werke, and from reading the first 80 pages, I infer that his writing is poetry that wells from his imagination. It is difficult enough to recapitulate ones own dreams. Freuds "analysis" of the dreams of others is a poetic invention, and I suspect so is most if not all of his theorizing. I very much hope that you are well, and comfortable as you contemplate the "Komik und Elend" which you are paid to witness.
