On 20181024 at 11:34 I telephoned Mr. Barros but did not reach him. Later, at about noon I had a very cordial and I believe mutually satisfactory telephone conversation with Mr. Barros. a) He recited how he went to the house of the owner of the white van in whose absence Mr. Barros left a note to the effect that "it would be towed to the junk yard if it had not been removed by 2 p.m." with the effect that the owner removed it. b) I apologized to Mr. Barros for the trash in the front hall, "which I would taken to the dump myself, but for the fact that I was unable to walk, and consider myself lucky if I can make it to the bathroom on time." c) I asked him, and he agreed, to deal with the trash on the first and second floors (but not in the basement) as he considered appropriate prior to insulation, inspection and plastering. d) I assured him that we would be fair in paying him extra for the extra work, and that we were confident that he would be fair with us. e) Obviously, money is the conclusive common denominator of our relationship to Mr. Barros. In the past I have always made payments in advance (as I did for 28 years with the Tracys and with Jeane in Konnarock, with Tim LeBlanc and Christopher Gordon on Nantucket) to obtain what Alex and I referred to as "the moral advantage" in my dealings with them. In the next conversation between you and myself, we should discuss how you wish to proceed. f) As long as I am confident of his loyalty, I am quite amenable to "overpaying" Mr. Barros for his help on Nantucket, just as I have been "overpaying" Jeane and the Tracys for their help in maintaining the house in Konnarock. In the next conversation between you and myself, we should discuss how you wish to proceed.
