On further reflection, I do not object to trying "barn" doors for the openings between the bedrooms. There are three such openings. I suggest ordering one set of folding doors and one set of barn doors, assuming that Tim is willing to install both. I would not order doors for the third pair of bedrooms, pending the results of this experiment. If the barn doors prove superior, the folding doors can be moved to a closet, and two more sets of barn doors can be purchased. I would order swinging doors for the bathrooms. I do not think that barn doors will be satisfactory. I would hinge the doors to allow them to swing into the bathrooms, and so as to open at least 90 degrees. I believe that in the two west bathrooms, the presence of the wall at the head of the tub would prevent the door from swinging open 90 degrees, and that my schedule of doors is incorrect in this respect. However, I would not be able to verify this without reviewing my notes. I would manage the problem of light switches occluded by opening doors by using night lights. These are available with photoelectric sensors. which turn them on automatically. I don't know what the errors are in the Shepley order. I don't know what information would be required to correct the errors. If you think that you can place an order for some doors now, I would do so. I would order the doors from the atrium to the bedrooms and dining room, all but one closet door, and one set of barn doors. I would defer ordering the doors to the bathrooms, pending re-inspection. Tim will have to come back anyway to install the spiral stairs, and he can install the remaining doors at that time. I will be late tonight, and probably will not come to see you unless there is something urgent. If you can place an order for some doors and trim, I would do it. I believe this quote to contain errors which we should not accept. Tim has proposed that he should install the doors, the trim and the baseboard before he leaves the Island. If this is to occur, we should immediately request a corrected quote and pay on the basis of the revised quote for the doors, the trim and the baseboard as soon as possible. Please tell me what to do.
