Thank you very much for your letter with your instructions concerning the ordering of inside doors. I will take your advice and e-mail to you copies of all relevant correspondence. My reason for this letter is to give you the opportunity to rescind, if you wish, my instructions to Tim, to install 2 1/4" white oak flooring also in each of the four bathrooms. To the extent that Tim has not already complied, this order is easy to rescind, if you so direct. I instructed Tim to install hardwood floors in the bathrooms because: 1) I consider the tiled floors in the Addtition unsatisfactory: a) The grooves between the tiles collect (fecal and other) debris which is difficult both to see and remove. b) The rough surface of the tiles collects grime which requires electrically driven scouring brushes to remove. While this grime is invisible on the dark grey tiles, the light-colored pink tiles (in the second floor bath) begin to look dirty only a few days after they have been cleaned. Rough surfaced tiles are impossible to keep clean; smooth surfaced tiles are slippery and unsafe. 2) Exploration on the Internet suggests that hardwood floors in bathrooms as well as kitchens are functionally efficient and socially acceptable. They are easier to clean than tiled floors. Depending on use, they should receive a coat of polyurethane every year or two. 3) Installation of hardwood bathroom floors in Madaket is efficient because we (will) have the wood, and Tim is (or will be) there to install it, obviating the strain on the family fabric entailed in the hypothetical tile selection process. If nonetheless you wish me to rescind my instructions to Tim, please e-mail me to that effect, and I shall try to do so.
