a) Last night, when an hour after I turned on the oil burner, the Internet sensor showed no rise in dining room temperature, I found, although the radiator in the downstairs hall was warm, the dining room radiator was still cold. The existing house second floor northwest bedroom radiators and east "master" bedroom radiators were also warm. Because of my difficulty in getting up off the floor when checking the baseboard radiators, I went to the basement (kitchen and boiler room) to palpate the pipes rising from the respective manifolds. Some pipes were warm; on the others which seemed cold I manually opened the zone valve (having waited one minute after turning off the power) and the pipes then became warm. I did not try to make diagnoses of (mal)functioning of zone valves or thermostats, but went to bed. On one of the next few days, I plan to test the system by transiently raising the boiler temperature (which is now 80 degrees,) to the normal 180 degrees. When you have time and when you're in the mood, I'd like to explain to you some of the engineering quirks of the existing system. b) This afternoon, I interpret the pulse on my right wrist to exhibit atrial fibrillation. The pulse on the left wrist I find barely palpable. c) I got out of bed at 9:30 a.m., took a shower, and feel well.
