At 5 a.m. when I stood up to urinate, could not control the anal sphincter and defecated diarhhea into my underwear.  Removed the underwear, washed - myself and the underwear - managed with some effort to put on clean underwear. Decided not to go back to bed a) because of the hip and leg pain when lying down would likely keep me from sleeping, and b) because the immobility of the right leg creates a painful pressure on the right heel, which might ulcerate. I've spent the last 13 hours sitting at the table in front of the computer, comfortable with blanket and heater, sleeping intermittently until 3 p.m., when I began to compose the notes which I sent you about my computers. I've gotten up from the chair twice to urinate.  I've walked to the head of the stairs three times, to consider whether I should take the risks of falling on the way down, and of inability to come back up, and decided, especially since I was presently comfortable that discretion was the better part of valor. I haven't had anything to eat or drink since yesterday, without feeling either hungry or thirsty.  Please don't interrupt your work or incur any inconvenience to come to see me.
