Dear Nikola,

Not having heard from you for a few days, I think of you often, fervently wishing that you are getting along reasonably well.

About an hour ago, I finished reading page 772, the last page of my edition of Th. Mann's Dr. Faustus. It had mesmerized me for several days, and I thank you for reminding me to read it again - after a lapse of 72 years. I am devoted admirer of Thomas Mann's literary skills of which I try hard not to be envious.
