I read Reinhold Busch's Verstreut über alle fünf Kontinente as an unintended confused and confusing investigation of the nature of the family. I consider my work on it as an experimental investigation of the family, and hence of society, and this specifically in the sphere or religious matters. Heretofore, I have understood religion as an inward task for the individual. Now I think I begin to understand meaning of, and the need for, ritual as social, or societal cement which fuses the personalities of single individuals into the compound individuality of society, a nation, ein Volk.
