When and if you read in the Internet, the translations of the texts of Bach's church cantatas, you may be startled how commonly the image of Jesus as the bridegroom is invoked as bait for the girls, and how often the men are promised to be rewarded with God as the reliable, trustworthy friend. All this is a promotion worthy of Edward Bernays which gives me a hint of the religious motives that powered Leibniz' best of all possible worlds.
