Good morning. You are probably aware that I haven't been locking the Red Car for months - years. When changing the batteries in the electronic keys no longer cured their failure, I gave up. The tail gate locks automatically on closure and has always opened in response to pushing the fixed electronic switch on the dashboard. I wouldn't know how to try to open a locked tailgate from the inside, but I suspect it can be done. The four side doors have occasionally locked and unlocked spontaneously when the battery was attached. That is why I have always been leaving the left front door open when I step out of the drivers seat to detach the battery cable, and open the left front door BEFORE I reattach the battery cable, because sometimes the doors lock spontaneously when the cable is reattached. You don't want to get locked out of the car when you reattach the battery cable. You should be aware that each of the four electronic keys contains a skeleton which will unlock the left front door. This skeleton is tricky to extract from the key; at times I have needed a pocked knife to help extract the skeleton. YOU SHOULD LEARN HOW TO DO THIS. If you like I will show you. For the past several months I have left the principal electronic key which I use to start the engine disassembled. I hope that you are comfortable and happy.
