Footnotes to my epistemology: a) My consciousness: The conjunction of my instant, present awareness of my sensation with my "self" as the subjective correlate of that sensation. That consciousness comprises a broad spectrum. from: i) consciousness of an hypothetical event in the past which is by its nature "mythological", e.g. the Council of Nicea, 325 A.D., even when securely documented, as with the Nicene Creed, to: ii) consciousness of any one of a cascade of immediate sensations, e.g. my cold fingers, my irritated eye. Inherent in consciousness is the (potential) assessment of the reality of what is perceived. b) The social context: Although I feel a strong need to identify and assert my subjective individuality, I cannot deny or escape the society which has made me the person that I am. b-1) Language is proof of my dependence on society, notwithstanding the circumstances that my ability to hear and to speak are innate. The grammar, syntax and meaning of my words are prescribed by the society by which my language has evolved. b-2) Mathematics corroborates my dependence on society. The validity of mathematical statements, like the meaning of language, in based in part b-2-1) on social prescription and endorsement b-2-2) on the (subjective) nature of my psyche b-2-3) on the (objective) nature of the world in which I live c) b-1) and b-2) above (tend to) obviate the distinction between what is objective and what is subjective; and to suggest that "nature" (natura sive deus) should comprise both what is objective and what is subjective.
