August 10, 2023 Dear Nathaniel, I keep thinking about you, with the hope that the immobility of your left arm is not too distressing to you. Your finger will heal, and your life will have a new beginning. Until your finger has healed, please do not carry anything up to my room. I am concerned that you might fall, especially on the stairs. I have enjoyed your bringing me oatmeal and coffee each day, but I can readily do without it. When necessary, I will telephone or e-mail Sabine, and ask her to bring me what little I need. At this time, I have no requests. Before you and Sabine moved in, I used a canvas bag and a rope to hoist upstairs items which I needed to take to the second floor, leaving my hands free to cling to the stair railing. As of today I am still able to pull a partially filled canvas bag to the second floor, and it would be practical for us to revert to this technique if Sabine wished. As long as your arm is splinted, please do not drive a car. And until you are again moving both your hands freely, please do not plan to travel. Love, Jochen
