November 13, 2023 Dear Nathaniel, Here are my thoughts. They are NOT prescriptive for what you should do. They are descriptive of what I imagine I might attempt in the context of imagining myself in your position. a) I would propose to establish an Orchestra Collaborative for the purpose of playing music in concert in private rehearsals and public performances, providing opportunities for conductors and guest conductors as well as for players to exercise and enhance their skills as musicians, and to receive financial compensation for their efforts from funds, be it from ticket sales, charitable contributions, or other assets received by the Collaborative. b) I would prepare a list (catalogue) of ALL musicians of my acquaintance who might reasonably be expected to have an interest in participating in a). c) I would inform by e-mail, telephone or US Mail, persons named on b) of a) and inquire whether they were interested in participating. d) If the number of potential participants responding to c) were small, I would in addition inform all music schools in the Boston area of my project, and ask them to communicate the facts of my project to their students, providing with a suitable Notice to post on their bulletin boards. e) I would consider posting on Social Media on the Internet information about my project, with invitations to interested persons to apply for membership. f) I would survey the Greater Boston area for churches, conference halls, suitable empty business, factory or storage buildings where orchestra rehearsals and/or performances might be staged. I would submit such information to the (potential) members of the Collaborative and solicit their opinions. g) I would then proceed "as way opens." Love, Jochen
