     Die dritte Logik, die kritische Untersuchung des
Gedachten, The third logic is the critical investigation of
thought.  It confronts the expression and asks, what is
this, what does it mean, how am I to interpret this.  It
does not accept its reality on faith.  It is, of course,
naive to assume that thought, having been enmeshed in error
all along, is in a position suddenly, hoisting itself as it
were by its own bootstraps to assert that it is now, by a
simple act of will, about to desist from its erroneous ways,
to be reborn in some fashion, and in its new guise to solve
the problems that were previously impervious to it problems
which more likely than not it itself originally created.

     It is certainly true that there must be a new technique
of thought, but this is not something to be invented in a
moment of inspiration by an act of will.  it is something to
be discovered by laborious trial and error, to be nurtured
by disciplined effort, an art that will come to fruition
only after years of practice.
