20051013.01 The integration of the individual into his society entails a fateful anomaly. Each individual strives to be himself, to assert himself, to exercise his abilities and to fulfill his capacitiess; in other words, to distinguish himself from the society to which he belongs and on which he is dependent. The society, on the other hand, through the agency of its members perceives itself threatened by the individual as separate from it, and therefore seeks to integrate him into itself; by the same token rejecting a candidate for membership who is different; and such rejection has been my experience. * * * * *
