Having your laptop available tomorrow night, with its
facility to search the Greek New Testament, seems like a good
idea. I can't think of anything else that you need to bring.
There is, I think, no resolution of the paradoxes of our
experience, between outward and inward, objective and subjective,
body and soul, or however else we denominate them. They are
summarized in the miracle of the incarnation. I am uncertain to
what degree it is edifying to dwell on their paradoxical nature.
I am uncertain whether we should believe the promise of
Kierkegaard (and the other Romantics) that if and only if we
follow them into the (nether) world of subjectivity, will we be
saved.
Your own sanguine acceptance of the paradox as a virtue -
credo quia absurdum est - suggests the innocence that preceded
the Fall, and, if we are to believe Saint Paul, the innocence
that was restored to us by the resurrection.
Ernst Meyer
