"Be careful what you say!" Your concluding admonition to me,
with which you broke off our conversation yesterday morning
is a literal translation of so many threatening warnings
from both my father and my mother: Sei vorsichtig, was du
sagst! that your words were like an echo from around the
kitchen table in Konnarock, decades ago.
I accept your admonition, although I am under the impression
that in part due to your tutelage, my words are almost al-
ways carefully chosen and conservative. Please correct me if
I am wrong. In the present situation, I believe the follow-
ing should be said:
I agree that renovation of the kitchen and the bathrooms at
174 School Street is appropriate and, if prudently executed,
would enhance the market value of the house far in excess of
the costs and I am quite willing to make such improvements
as time, energy and money are available.
That such renovations should be a precondition of your use
of any of the space in the addition is an absurdity. Both
bathrooms have been functioning adequately for thirty years,
but if these were in any way inadequate, three additional
full bathrooms are available in the addition.
