     "Embers" is like a telescope through which one can
observe the collision of Platonism and Judaism.  I am
referring to the hypothesis of criminality that occurs only
in the imagination.  Compare the Biblical axioms that he who
lusts after a woman is guilty of adultery; that he who says
to his brother "thou fool" is guilty of hell fire.  Both of
these strictures are characterized by disproportionate
(uebertrieben) emphasis on ideas (Vorstellungen).
